Somnium - The rules of life on the backside of reality. Somnium is a TTRPG ruleset that easy to play and can be used in any genre of play. Hit Points - All Characters start with a base of 10 hit points. The only way to increase or decrease the base number of hit points is through the increase or decrease of the (?Constitution?) Stat. Addendum - there might be skills or special abilities that can change this value either temporarily or permanently. Hustle Gauge - this is the number of points the character has to buy their actions with. 1 point can buy 5 feet of movement or a basic attack. 2 Points to activate a basic ability. Skills - Characters start out 10 points to distribute amongst any skills they might have learned up to this point in their life. These skills include and weapon and armor skills, which include things like, Pistols, daggers, swords, fists, evading, Ukemi. All skills should make sense within the character concept. To learn new skills and grow existing ones characters need only to use those skill. Every time a skill is use the player rolls two dice, a D10 and a D20. The D20 is assess the skill usage, the D10 is rolled to see if the character has learned anything from the skill use. If when rolled the D10 rolls a 1 then the character earns a point toward experience needed to learn more in the particular skill. The amount of experience needed to learn an increase in the skill stat is equal to that skills current level.
Hence Charlie has used his bow skill quite a few times. His current bow skill is 4. He has rolled a 1 on the D10 three times. So He has 3 experience towards his bow skill. He only need to roll a 1 on the D10 one more time before he levels that skill to 5. Combat - 1. Go around the table and declare your characters actions for the round. 2. Determine Initiative. Roll a d10 plus any one applicable skill bonus. Highest to lowest. 3. Attack against opponents evasion or other applicable skill plus other bonuses, If failure, they evade the attack. If Successful, then the opponent rolls any damage reduction skill (armor, blocking, and such) the amount below the attackers roll is the amount of damage taken. If the opponents roll is larger than the attackers then no damage is taken.
Somnium 1947 - The year is 1947. Just a few short years after the second of the great wars. The U.S. rises to the level of one of two superpowers on the planet. Unbeknownst to most, there are other superpowers in play in the world. Dark factions. Many in fact. Some are made from just a singular entity and other number in the millions, yet some do not even exist at all. Then there is you.
Factions
The Company - A private group funded by captains of industry. Much like other groups they seek out abjurations and powerful artifacts in order to use and control them. Mostly aligned with a scientific bias. They study these artifacts and abjurations so they might push their technology further to expand their capitalistic power. They justify any ruthless or underhanded endeavors by claiming their motivations are really about the betterment of the whole world.
Dark Cabal - This is not a coherently large secret society as much as its a bunch of smaller secretive groups that have similar motives. They tend to be comprised of member from all levels of society. Their motivations tend to be the acquisition of personal power, (whether it takes the form of money, influence, or even actual dark magic power). They tend to summon and/or contact other beings from the outside realms in order to make "deals" with them. These deals are very rarely turn out the way they were intended, as these entities tend to obsess with poking the loopholes of such contracts, sometimes even to their own detriment. It is assumed that they find it "entertaining" to express their intellect this way.
Freemasons - The Greys - Golden Dawn - The Government - The Illuminati - The Interface - A singular entity that seems to have an understanding of the true workings of reality. Speaking to it is unsettling. It is very intelligent but at the same time can get things so fundamentally wrong. Its almost as if it has all of the information in the Universe while at the same time not understanding what it knows. It will give answers if asked, but information given depends on the questioners "clearance level".
